Reindeer and Warm-Up Exercises in Separate Articles

It just happens that two articles were published today. There really is nothing about keeping reindeer warm or fit.

Other People Do Discuss Reindeer Exercise

(Updated March 6, 2013): Since so many people search for “reindeer exercise” and find this post, let me link you to the two top contenders for this unusual subject.

  1. Reindeer Exercise Video” has a youngster “demonstrate exercise as Clarice the Reindeer”.
  2. Star the Reindeer” gets her exercise by walking through Anchorage, Alaska.

You could put Rudolph through his reindeer exercise paces on a Nintendo platform; there are Canadian Rudoph video games and American video games for Rudolph.

Finally, if you want to see European reindeer in Toronto, allow me to recommend “Tundra Trek” at the Metro Toronto Zoo.

Super Reindeer

The Reindeer Superpower: Ultraviolet Vision” was published a day after I submitted it to one now-defunct online science magazine. A recent news article reported that reindeer can see ultraviolet light, a surprising advantage for this arctic herbivore to survive.

Exercise and the Warm Up Paradox

My phrase for it is the “warm up paradox”: cold muscles should not exercise hard, but only exercise warms up the muscles. My “Warming Up To Exercise” article in DeHaan Fitness… presents five tips to safely warm up before exercise.

This article also was triggered by reading a news report about how much an elite sprint athlete warms up just before a competition. I discuss those findings in my article, although my focus is on the amateur, recreational or health-oriented athlete.

Extra Publicity

Of course, I also posted a note about these articles in “Two Articles and Two Subjects on One Day“.

Three Articles about Curcumin and Turmeric

I had read a research paper stating that a compound derived from curcumin shows promise in boosting the effectiveness of cisplatin in chemotherapy for specific types of cancer. As described in “Curry Versus Cancer via the Curcumin in Turmeric“,  I investigated the subject and developed material for three separate articles.

Curcumin is an active ingredient in turmeric, the primary spice for curry. As it happens, curcumin does not contribute to the aroma or flavour, but may have several health benefits.

The Broad Survey in Decoded Science

My “Brief Survey of the Health Benefits of Curcumin” provides an overview of the claimed benefits of curcumin. The article reviews what is being claimed, especially within traditional herb lore, and how much has been demonstrated to the satisfaction of modern science.

Limited Results from One Study in a now-defunct web site

My “Limited Conclusions for Curcumin from a May 2011 Cancer Study” has its focus on the research study that triggered my original interest. I point out that the study report was careful not to make huge claims, although the headline was certainly bold enough to pique my interest.

The Turmeric Plant Revealed in another defunct web site

My “Turmeric: India’s Mystic Curry Spice” has just been published in another now-defunct web site. This article describes the plant, where it grows, and also gives a broad outline of its uses.
