Papaya Guards Florida Tomatoes from Silverleaf Whitefly Pest

My latest article, Why Papaya Plants Are Protecting Tomatoes from Whitefly, in a now-defunct online science magazine, reveals that Florida farmers are experimenting with a blend of tomato, papaya, wasp and two types of whitefly. The farmers have found a way to use papaya to guard tomato plants from silverleaf whitefly.

How Can One Plant Guard Another?

My first question was indeed, “How can a plant guard anything”? Well, other than maybe poison ivy or a thorn bush could be a fence.

Please read the article (noted above) to solve this agricultural mystery. The only clue is that the word “bank” is involved, but this bank contains neither money nor seeds.

As always, I also promote my article in my Blog of Writing, where “Florida Tomatoes Guarded by Papaya” has a handy writing tip.

Busy with Clients at the Moment

I want to take a moment to say that my pace for writing online magazine articles at Decoded Science, and other online web sites, has been slower than I would have liked for November. The happy reason is that I’ve been working on writing assignments for several clients. I’m proud to say that the majority are repeat customers. Today one of them approved the set of articles I wrote for him, but I’m quite busy on tight deadlines for some of the others.

  1. Wonderful blog! I found it while searching on Yahoo News. Do you have any tips on how to get listed in Yahoo News? I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there! Many thanks

Ha’ ya nae tried the Y! News Submission form, laddie?
      (( drops accent ))
Apparently you need to be logged-in to Y! to use it, and I have no idea what their guidelines require.
The next time I write a “news” item (like the Toronto Marathon, recently) rather than publicity for my articles, I should try sending to Y! News myself. Thanks for the idea.
