Autumn Insect Articles Recap for 2011

Every autumn, some insects make the news. Watch for these bugs, coming soon to a headline near you!

(Updated Oct. 13, 2015): The main articles were published in now-defunct online science magazines, so I removed the links.

Reminding You of Insects for the Autumn Season

Two insects earn special notice in the fall season. I wrote about them in 2010, and they will be just as exciting in 2011.

Head Lice are Back-to-School Favourites

The beginning of every school year brings headlines and advice about Head Lice. The common head louse is not a serious health hazard, but public schools are vigilant when children return.

Stink Bugs are Shield Bugs

I had written a pair of complementary articles about the Shield Bug. Otherwise known as the Stink Bug, this insect is quite harmless but smells really awful.

The Brown Marmorated Shield Bug is an invasive species, and causes economic damage because it mars the appearance of some farm produce.

Most people notice them in the autumn, because they want to join you in the warmth and comfort of your home.

The Stink Bug Inside and Out” and “Stink Bugs or Shield Bug, Please Eliminate This Insect Pest!” present some helpful tips.

In 2010, I was amazed that stink bugs were much more hated, loathed, feared and discussed than bedbugs.

Bonus Articles about Bedbugs

The bed bug, or bedbug, is a problem throughout the year. “How to Fight an Infestation of Bed Bugs” is just one of my articles that might help. My earliest article about bedbugs was “Bedbugs – Symptoms, Signs and Solving the Problem“, and still has great background information.

Bedbug infestations often require professional pest control experts to eradicate the crawling adults as well as the eggs.

To try beating the bed bugs yourself with natural products, I’d start by searching in Abe’s Market for their bedbug sprays. I’d really like to hear from anyone who has used the “Logic” brand of products on bedbugs: have you actually seen it “destroy bed bugs on contact within seconds”?
