As October nears the finish line, the 2013 Fall Beach Studio Tour returns to Toronto’s eastern Beach neighbourhood.

Where and when can you find this free art tour?

This autumn I found and finally photographed the signature advertising symbol for the Beach Studio Art Tour: a small yellow bicycle. If you spot one in the Beach neighbourhood, it’s a sure sign that a participating art studio is somewhere close by.

What is the Beach Studio Art Tour?

The Beach Studio Tour is a free semi-annual event in Toronto. A number of art studios in the eastern Beach neighbourhood participate, showcasing the work of Toronto artists. Generally they offer refreshments, as well as a small prize for the weekend, at each studio.

This is a self-guided tour. Keep reading for enough details that you can plan your route.

When is the Beach Studio Tour?

The 2013 Fall Beach Studio Tour runs from Friday Oct. 25 through Sunday Oct. 27, 2013. The exact hours are:

  • Friday from 6-9pm;
  • Saturday from 10am-6pm;
  • Sunday from 11am-6pm.

Where is the Beach Studio Tour?

The studio tour area is bounded by Woodbine Ave. on the west, Upper Gerrard St. to the north, Blantyre Ave. to the east, and the lake to the south.

A better description would be that half the art studios fall between Upper Gerrard and Kingston Road; the other half are nearer Queen St. East. The southernmost is just south of Fir Ave., on Hazel Ave.

Better yet, visit the official Beach Studio Tour web site, scroll to the bottom of the page, and enlarge the map so you can see the specific studios. This site offers some great tools. Hover your mouse over the “Artists” tab on the top navigation menu to see the various types of artwork available. Click on the “Studio Guide” tab instead, so you can see the address of each studio, plus the artists and artwork featured in that studio.

The details change from one Tour to the next; the “Spring 2013 Beach Studio Tour” featured “25 local artists at 15 venues”.

Looking for More Art Events in Canada?

I was surprised to find an art exhibit opening this same weekend, but tied to the Grey Cup Festival in Regina. That’s “The First Free Event for Grey Cup 2013 in Regina“. If you love art about sports, you have until Dec. 1, 2013 to see that exhibit. Time it right, and you could watch the Grey Cup Parade live too.

Ideas for a Toronto Vacation or Staycation

This site often notes annual Toronto events that I find interesting, and provides ideas for free or frugal things to do in Toronto.

CityPASS offers discount tickets to Toronto attractions, including Metro Toronto Zoo coupons. You buy the voucher online, print it and take it to your first destination; let’s say it’s the zoo. They give you the coupon booklet but remove the Metro Toronto Zoo discount tickets. Visit the next four attractions, where helpful staff relieve your booklet of tickets but leave you with the rest of the information. You save over $40 by spending about $70. The voucher is good for almost two years, but you have to use all the discount admission tickets within nine days. This is terrific for tourists looking for multiple things to do in Toronto, or for a hometown stay-cation: use discount tickets to Casa Loma, the CN Tower, the Metro Toronto Zoo, the Ontario Science Centre and the Royal Ontario Museum in a nine day adventure. That’s five things to do while vacationing in Toronto Canada, and at a bargain price thanks to the discount coupons.
