A Few Free 2012 Halloween Events in Toronto

Who could resist free events in Toronto for the 2012 Hallowe’en season? Here are just a few found through the web.

Are there any Free Toronto Events for Hallowe’en 2012?

In one word, “Yes”. I found these simply by checking the current City of Toronto’s “events” listing online. While some events show the admission cost on that page, others keep such matters a secret to be divulged only on a subsequent site with fuller details.

My list is certainly not complete, but provides a good start.

The Church Street Halloweek from Oct. 24 through 31, 2012

Halloweek on Church Street” has the earliest start, running from Wed. Oct. 24 to Wed. Oct. 31. It’s free to go to Church and Wellesley, although I’m sure the bars and restaurants of Toronto would appreciate your patronage.

The Jack O’Lantern contest is on Sat. Oct. 27th.  The blockbuster block party is on Hallowe’en night itself, Wed. Oct. 31st.

The City of Toronto page, linked above, has an e-mail address and encourages one to contact the organizers, which is just as well because I did not see further details on the official Church Wellesley Village site at press time.

One would expect Halloweek to be adult-oriented, whereas the events listed below explicitly are child-friendly.

Events on Saturday Oct. 27, 2012

These three events all take place on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012; so you’ll need to choose among several attractive options.

Kiddie Hallowe’en at the Jimmie Simpson Recreation Centre

The “Kiddie Hallowe’en Party” runs from 11am to 3pm in the Jimmie Simpson Recreation Centre at 870 Queen St. East, as well as at nearby locations. You might check the official page for contact information and further details.

Pumpkins in Bloor West Village

From 11am to 4pm, Bloor West Village hosts “PumpkinFest in the Village“.

Pumpkins will be carved into Jack O’Lanterns. Faces will be painted. Stilts will be walked

Hallowe’en treasures will be hunted, if you vist the official site, follow links and print the Treasure Hunt entry form.

Going to the Dogs for Hallowe’en

PawsWay’s Annual Hallowe’en Party” should be fully under way by noon on the 27th and run through 4pm at 245 Queen’s Quay West. Your dog deserves to enjoy wearing that adorable costume down in the Harbourfront district of Toronto.

Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27-28, 2012 at Riverdale Farm

Celebrate the Riverdale Farm’s continued existence in Toronto by attending their “Hallowe’en Boo Barn” event. They  encourage you and your children to wear costumes from 9:30am to 3:30pm.

Males as well as females with low libido have less interest in http://nichestlouis.com/cialis-4478.html cialis on line sex. Erectile Dysfunction is generic 10mg cialis one of those nightmares that turn into reality as you are growing up. Yes, some of you might not be having online levitra more helpful tabs any problem of incontinence in the future also. Basically, the androgen receptors are found within your body’s muscle cells and fat cells and the order cialis DHT binds to them both, therefore there is a fat burning effect from the usage. The only cost for admission is a non-perishable donation for a local food bank.

Riverdale Farm is at 201 Winchester Street near Sumach Street and north of Gerrard Street. The best TTC access is from the College station at Yonge, then the 506 Carlton streetcar east to Sumach. An alternate choice is the Winchester stop on the 55 Parliament bus route, which you would take south from the Castle Frank station on the Bloor-Danforth line. Either way, expect to walk 3 blocks to RF, and then around the grounds.

Sunday Oct. 28 in High Park

Freely parade around High Park in your costume from 3-9pm thanks to “Toronto West Hallowe’en Fest“.

However, you can also support the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation by registering and raising funds. They offer a party at the Palais Royale if your friends donate enough; see their web site for details. My guess is that the Palais Royale event is the exception to the child-friendly nature of the other free Toronto Hallowe’en events listed here.

Hallowe’en on Wed. Oct. 31

Wed. Oct. 31 is, of course, Hallowe’en.

Children should insist that a parent or responsible adult walk with them as they ask for treats from their neighbours.

Thursday Nov. 1 from 6-8:30pm at Mimico

(Updated Oct. 27, 2014: now the 3rd annual Mimico Pumpkin Parade, and a new link, but the same location).

Mimico actually has a good reason for holding the “1st Annual Mimico Pumpkin Parade” on All Saints’ Day, the day after Hallowe’en. This is the municipality’s way to retire all the Jack O’Lanterns whose candles were lit one last time from 6-8:30pm on Nov. 1st, 2012.

Join the event in Amos Waites Park at the foot of Mimico Ave. where it meets Lake Shore Blvd West.

Bring your own Jack O’Lanterns and candles, but be prepared to leave them behind after this new annual autumn Toronto event.

Private Preparations for Hallowe’en Parties

Many of us will host or visit private Hallowe’en parties in Toronto. These should be a good warm-up for Christmas, Kwanzaa or other mid-winter celebrations coming in the next few months.

I was so inspired by the thought of making Hallowe’en a more healthy annual event, that I wrote “Halloween Ideas for Healthy Eating with Pumpkin“. If you plan ahead while shopping for that pumpkin, you can make healthy pumpkin seed snacks and hearty vegetable dishes along with a ghoulish Jack O’Lantern.

Check the “annual events” or “Toronto events” categories toward the end of the left-hand menu.

(Updated Oct. 26, 2012): I wrote “Four Cheap Events in Toronto for Halloween 2012” to follow-up with relatively inexpensive Hallowe’en events for Toronto.
