The free “Guild Alive” arts festival celebrates arts and crafts with a variety of entertainers on the weekend of July 28-29, 2012. The Guildwood Park grounds surrounding Scarborough’s fabled Guildwood Inn serves as the venue from 10am until 7pm Saturday or 5pm Sunday.

The July 2012 entertainment schedule for “Guild Alive” begins Saturday morning with the Liza Williams Band and ends with the 3pm show by GWood. Sunday’s alternative to an 11am church service is HOZA!, a “change” based on African folk music; the final performance starts at 4pm, featuring the Firm Faith Gospel Singers. Over five dozen booths include craftspersons selling their artistic wares, service organizations and charitable or civic groups. Pottery and jewelry will be prominently featured.

Getting to Guildwood Park for the 2012 Arts Festival

There are several options to find the Guild Inn and Guildwood Park in Scarborough, Ontario. Nonetheless, this site will still refer to the “Guild Alive with Culture” festival as “an annual summer Toronto event in Guildwood Toronto” anyway. Those who search for “Scarborough Guildwood” are likely to find references to the Elections Ontario political riding.

The location is 201 Guildwood Parkway. By car, drive along Kingston Road; Guildwood Parkway is north-east of Eglinton Avenue and Scarborough Golf Club Road, but south-west of Galloway Road, Lawrence Avenue East and Morningside Avenue. There are a few parking spots in the park itself.

The 116 Morningside bus routes drive along Guildwood Parkway. These routes connect from the Kennedy subway station and head east along Eglinton, touch Kingston Road, then wind along Guildwood Parkway before heading north on Morningside.

By the way, I’ve taken a lovely walk down Doris McCarthy Trail which passes through Guildwood Park and descends somewhat steeply to Lake Ontario. It has my recommendation for those without mobility challenges or frail hearts.
